A clean, ad-free home screen for your Android TV

Aerial is a free replacement home screen for Android TV: instead of ads and recommended content, you get just your apps and nice screensavers. It installs without root and can be undone anytime.

It's a launcher app for your TV that swaps the cluttered home screen for a clean one, with no ad tiles or recommended content.

When it helps

Useful if your TV runs Android TV or Google TV (mostly Chinese brands — Xiaomi, TCL, Skyworth, Sony, etc.) and you're fed up with a cluttered home screen. Won't work if your TV isn't Android TV-based (Samsung, LG, Roku, Vizio), and it won't remove ads inside the apps themselves.

Pros

  • Ad-free, recommendation-free home screen — just your apps
  • Surfaces apps the TV maker hid from the regular app grid
  • Rename HDMI inputs by device (Apple TV, PlayStation, etc.)
  • No root needed, easy to revert to the original screen

Cons

  • Doesn't block ads inside the apps themselves
  • Needs a laptop on the same network to install via ADB
  • Only works on Android TV/Google TV, not Samsung, LG, Roku

How to set it up — step by step

  1. 1Turn on ADB debugging in your TV's developer settings (steps vary by brand).
  2. 2Find your TV's IP address in its network settings — you'll need it for setup.
  3. 3Open your agent (Claude Code or similar) on a laptop connected to the same network as the TV.
  4. 4Send the agent the text from the block below.
  5. 5Press Home on the remote and pick Aerial as the home screen if it doesn't switch automatically.
  6. 6Check the new home screen — long-press OK on any app to hide, move, or delete it.

Text for your agent

Copy this and send it to your agent — Claude Code, Codex, any of them:

Download the Aerial APK from https://github.com/pengchujin/aerial-tv/releases/latest, install it on the TV using its own file manager or `adb install` from a laptop, and ask your agent to help run that command if the TV supports USB debugging. Show me the new home screen.

Needs Android TV or Google TV 5.0 or newer (a Lite version covers 4.0–4.4); a laptop is only needed if you install via ADB, not when installing directly on the TV.
