Turn iPhone Room Scans into a 3D Scene with an AI Agent
Based on the README: scan a room with a LiDAR-equipped iPhone or iPad, and an AI coding agent turns the geometry and photos into an editable 3D scene you can walk through in a browser.
This is a tool that turns room scans into an editable 3D model. An iPhone or iPad with LiDAR — a depth sensor — records the room's geometry and photos tied to each capture point. The repo includes a "skill": step-by-step instructions for an AI agent. The agent builds the scene — walls, openings, objects — and checks it against the photos, looking for mismatches. It's not a one-click scan-to-model button, it's an iterative process.
When it helps
Useful if you have a LiDAR iPhone or iPad and want a walkable floor plan of a room or apartment — for a portfolio or to show off an interior. Without LiDAR you can't scan your own space, but you can still open and explore the ready-made demo office.
Pros
- Demo footage is already shot — no own LiDAR or scans needed
- Agent checks the scene against photos, not just builds it
- Several view modes: overhead, first-person, wireframe
Cons
- Works only with rooms and interiors
- Iterative process, not an instant one-click result
- Scanning your own space needs a separate LiDAR iPhone or iPad
How to set it up — step by step
- 1Open your AI agent (Claude Code, Codex) in your project folder.
- 2Send the agent the text from the block below.
- 3Let the agent run npm ci and npm run dev in github.com/wesbos/3d-model-anything.
- 4Open the demo office in your browser and check the scene loads.
- 5Switch view modes — overhead, first-person walk, wireframe — and look around the scene.
- 6To scan your own room, use a separate LiDAR-equipped iPhone or iPad.
Text for your agent
Copy this and send it to your agent — Claude Code, Codex, any of them:
Set up the 3D Model Anything viewer from https://github.com/wesbos/3d-model-anything — follow the README (npm ci, npm run dev), open the office demo at localhost:5188, and show me a screenshot of the walking view.
Runs on a regular laptop — no GPU needed, just Node.js and Python. To scan your own room though, you need an iPhone or iPad with LiDAR — without one, only the prebuilt demo is available.
