Turn Text into Speech with a Cloned Voice — Free, on Your Laptop
Audio8-TTS-Realistic-0.6B is a compact model that turns text into speech and copies a voice from a short sample, right on your laptop, without a cloud subscription.
It's a text-to-speech model: give it text and a short voice sample, and it speaks the text in that voice. Runs on your own computer, no internet or payment needed.
When it helps
Useful for free local narration, demos, or voiceovers without a cloud speech subscription. Skip it if you need top accuracy on hard multilingual text — paid rivals do better there.
Pros
- Runs locally and free, no cloud subscription needed
- Clones a voice from one short sample, no training
- Supports 23 languages, including Russian and Arabic
- Compact: about one gigabyte, fits an ordinary laptop
Cons
- Weaker than large paid models on hard multilingual tests
- Needs the voice owner's permission before cloning it
How to set it up — step by step
- 1Open your coding agent (Claude Code, Codex) inside your project folder

Set up the Audio8-TTS-Realistic-0.6B model from Edge0 for me, from Hugging Face: https://huggingface.co/Edge0/Audio8-TTS-Realistic-0.6b — run it locally and show me how to generate speech in a cloned voice from a sample.
A regular laptop with 8 GB of RAM or more: the model is compact, around 0.6 billion parameters, taking roughly 1 GB in full precision (this is an estimate based on the model's size).
