GLM-5.3-Flash: Z.ai's multimodal model on Ollama

Z.ai's GLM-5.3-Flash — the first natively multimodal model in the GLM-5 family — is now on Ollama. It reads text, images, and video together under an MIT license.

GLM-5.3-Flash is Z.ai's (zai-org) first natively multimodal model in the GLM-5 series — it handles text, images, and video within a single model without a separate processing pipeline. The architecture is a mixture of experts: 320 billion total parameters with 18 billion active per token, designed for efficient inference. The context window is 1 million tokens. According to the Ollama model page, it approaches Claude Opus 4.8 performance on coding and agentic benchmarks at significantly lower compute cost than its predecessor. The model is released under an MIT license, allowing unrestricted commercial use. Now available via Ollama: `ollama run glm-5.3-flash`.

Why a vibe-coder should care

GLM-5.3-Flash adds multimodal understanding — analyzing images and video alongside text — to a model installable via Ollama. The MIT license means it can go directly into commercial projects without licensing negotiations.

How to install

Copy this and send it to your agent — Claude Code, Codex, any of them:

Install GLM-5.3-Flash by Z.ai: ollama run glm-5.3-flash — requires a machine with 96+ GB RAM or multiple GPUs. After setup, show me how to send it an image and ask a question about what's in it.

Server-grade model — you can't run this on a regular laptop: a multi-GPU machine or a Mac Pro/Studio Ultra with 96 GB of RAM or more is needed.
