Anthropic's Agents Now Work 6 Times More Hours Than Humans
Anthropic's AI agents logged six times more hours than humans, while junior hiring in technical departments fell from 27% to 9%.
A recent Anthropic report laid out in detail how AI is affecting the company. By August 2026, its AI agents were working six times more hours than humans. They first overtook humans in hours worked back in March 2026. The share of junior staff in technical roles dropped, from 21% to 14%. More telling is the drop in junior hiring in technical fields, from 27% to 9%. Meetings got longer too, up 20% year over year. The ratio of engineers to product managers climbed to roughly 17 to 1.
It is pretty clear what is happening here. As AI agents become able to do things faster and cheaper than people, companies will slow down hiring new staff. Junior roles seem to take the hardest hit in this first phase. Longer meetings are not necessarily a bad sign, though. Once there are more AI agents than humans, human time becomes the limiting resource, and some of it is bound to go to meetings.
