Cognition Closes $2B Series E Round at a $48B Valuation
Cursor sold to SpaceX for $60B in April. Now Cognition (Devin) is worth $48B after raising $2B in a Series E round. Devin’s annualized revenue increased from $492M in May to $900M in September. Customers include Mercedes-Benz, NASA, and Goldman Sachs.
There’s plenty of room in the AI code assistant market for multiple winners. Cursor was acquired by SpaceX for $60 billion in April. And now, Cognition (creators of AI code assistant Devin) is valued at $48 billion following a $2 billion investment round (up from $26 billion four months ago). Their annual revenue grew from $492 million in May to $900 million in September, and they have clients like Mercedes-Benz, NASA, and Goldman Sachs.
This doesn’t mean that one product will take over and everyone else will fade away. With Cursor being acquired for $60 billion and Cognition now valued at $48 billion within a few months of each other, I think there will be multiple large players in the AI code assistant space simultaneously (at least, in terms of companies paying for these services, not individual programmers). So if you’re a vibin’ vibe coder, don’t worry about switching to another tool — just remember that the tools you use (code generators) are part of the same market that these companies are investing billions into, meaning this isn’t a temporary trend.
