Gemini in Google Cars Gets Access to Email and Calendar
Google has turned on Gemini with access to email, calendar and search history in cars: in Android Auto starting today, and in Google Built-in within a few months.
Google is adding a personal context feature for Gemini, its AI assistant, in cars. It lets the assistant read a driver's Gmail, Calendar and search history instead of answering blind. The feature is called Personal Intelligence. It went live today in Android Auto, the app that puts navigation and messages from a phone onto a car's screen. It will reach cars with Google Built-in, Google's software built directly into the vehicle, within a few months. With the feature turned on, Gemini can warn about a flight delay it found in the calendar. It can also answer two related questions, like the gate number and whether the flight is on time, in a single reply.
Google says the feature is opt-in. Drivers decide whether to turn it on. They choose which apps to connect, and they can switch it off at any time. That control is also its limit. The assistant only combines data users have already agreed to share into one answer. It does not take actions on their behalf. So this is an update for driver convenience, not a step toward an assistant that acts on its own.
