Claude Code can read AGENTS.md for project guidelines
Claude Code 2.1.277 (released September 18, 2026) reads AGENTS.md if no CLAUDE.md exists. That way you don’t have to duplicate the instructions between two files.
Recently, the Claude Code team announced that version 2.1.277 will now accept AGENTS.md as a way to document your project. If you don’t have a CLAUDE.md file, Claude Code will use your AGENTS.md file instead. This can be configured in your settings (/config) under the “Project instructions” heading.
Previously, I maintained two documentation files when working with projects using several AI code assistants. One was an AGENTS.md file containing documentation for all the different AI code assistants that supported AGENTS.md. The other was a CLAUDE.md file that contained specific documentation for Claude Code. When updating the documentation, I would need to update both files, which often resulted in them being out of date with each other.
Currently, this feature only works with the standalone Claude Code installation and does not support Bedrock, Vertex, or Foundry.
They also added ctrl+enter as a keybinding for sending your message right away, and syncing your skills & plugins from your claude.ai account to your terminal.
