Hyundai is buying the rest of Boston Dynamics

Hyundai is negotiating with SoftBank to purchase the remaining 9.9% stake in Boston Dynamics for about ~$325M. This will make Hyundai the sole owner of Boston Dynamics and enable them to start mass-producing serial Atlases from 2028.

Hyundai is negotiating with SoftBank to acquire the remaining 9.9% stake in Boston Dynamics for approximately $325 million — which would give the automaker 100% control over the creator of the Atlas robot. Hyundai has held an 80% stake since 2020. Serial production is set to begin in Georgia in 2028, targeting 30,000 humanoid robots per year, with NVIDIA and Google DeepMind as partners. The production version of Atlas was unveiled at CES 2026.

With full ownership of Boston Dynamics, Hyundai can quickly move into Physical AI, where robots work side by side with humans in the physical world. By 2030, Atlas will be able to perform complex industrial tasks in factories, taking over from human labourers.
