Instagram Cuts Reach for Unlabeled AI-Generated Profiles
Instagram is reducing algorithmic reach for undisclosed AI personas: hundreds of fake "doctors" and 20+ AI influencers for a dating app were the last straw. Labeling is now a condition for visibility.
Starting August 31, 2026, Instagram is reducing algorithmic reach for accounts with undisclosed AI-generated personas. The platform has renamed the "AI creator" label to "AI-generated profile" and promises not to penalize those who label themselves voluntarily — only those who stay silent will be affected.
The move was prompted by hundreds of fake "doctors" and "nutritionists" promoting supplements without disclosure, and a campaign of 20+ AI influencers for the dating app Goose. AI content labeling is shifting from an ethical norm to a business necessity: without it, posts simply stop being seen.
