Midjourney buys astrology app company Co-Star
AI firm Midjourney buys social astrology app Co-Star (4.3M MAU) and builds out a suite of consumer products around astrology, healthcare, and wellness.
Midjourney (AI image generator) acquires Co-Star (social astrology app, 4.3M MAU). All 24 members of the Co-Star team are joining Midjourney. Terms not disclosed.
Co-Star is a social astrology app that allows users to create birth charts using their birthdate and place of birth, see how compatible they are with friends astrologically, and get daily horoscope readings. It uses a mix of AI and human astrologers.
Midjourney Is Building a Consumer Ecosystem
Midjourney is making a big shift in strategy by acquiring Co-Star. Previously, Midjourney only existed as a Discord platform without any apps. Now, they’re working on both a healthcare app and a spa app at the same time, while also gaining a team of experienced consumer product developers through this acquisition.
AI labs are starting to expand beyond just tooling and creating their own consumer products. We’ve seen this with Midjourney (AI image generator), OpenAI (speaker), and Anthropic (voice) — all of them are looking to interact directly with customers.
