OpenAI Quadruples Its Bug Bounty Payouts
OpenAI more than quadrupled its bug bounty payouts. The top reward can now reach $172,000 with bonuses.
OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT, raised the payouts in its bug bounty program. A bug bounty is a cash reward companies offer for finding security flaws in their software. Critical vulnerabilities in ChatGPT, in Codex (OpenAI's coding tool), or in its API now pay up to $30,000. That is more than four times the previous rate. One major vulnerability, with all bonus payments included, can now bring in up to $172,000.
During OpenAI's last security review of its products, a quarter of its product engineers worked on finding and fixing these vulnerabilities. They used OpenAI's own Codex agent to do it. Security for AI agents is turning into a serious investment, not an afterthought. A flaw in an AI agent that listens to your private chats is worth more than the bug bounty itself.
