SF DA Calls on Apple/Google to Remove 13 AI-Powered ‘Nudify’ Apps

Apple and Google have been asked by San Francisco’s city attorney to pull 13 AI-powered apps that create non-consensual nudes. Estimates say the two companies have made millions from these apps in revenue share.

David Chiu, the City Attorney for San Francisco, has issued formal notices to both Apple and Google asking them to remove 13 AI-powered apps that create non-consensual nudes. In his letters, he asks both companies to “cease facilitating the sale” of sexual deepfakes, which is illegal in California. Estimates say the two companies have made millions from these apps in revenue share.

Google has already taken action, removing 5 of the 13 apps from its Play Store. This is the first time US officials have gone after app stores instead of the makers of deepfake content.
