Suno v6 trained on Warner/BMG dataset — The future of AI Music.
AI music is usually seen as an enemy of copyright owners. But now Suno has launched a new version of their music generator, trained on licensed data from Warner Music and BMG. This is the first time a major label has agreed to license data to train an AI.
Suno released v6 — the first music-generation model trained on licensed data from major labels. Warner Music and BMG officially supplied the data, and Warner dropped its 2024 lawsuit in exchange for a revenue-sharing deal. Starting today, the partnership pays labels direct royalties, and v6 can edit tracks by typed phrases, make mashups, and generate music from a description of a mood.
Before this, AI music services and rights holders were mostly suing each other. Suno's approach — data for royalties from day one — sets a new pattern: instead of blocking their catalogs, labels get paid for every use while keeping control over artists' voices.
