Open Code Review: AI Code Review by Alibaba

Alibaba’s internal AI code review tool (open-sourced after 2 years of powering tens of thousands of developers) that supports Claude Code, Codex, Cursor

Open Code Review (OCR) is Alibaba Group’s internal AI-enabled code review CLI, open-sourced after 2 years of internal adoption by tens of thousands of developers. OCR takes a Git diff as input, uses an agent with tool usage capabilities to ship changed files to a configurable LLM, and generates structured code review feedback with line-level granularity. OCR is a hybrid system that combines the advantages of deterministic engineering (e.g. file selection, grouping, and rule matching) and LLM agents (e.g. dynamic context and comment generation). On 50 popular open-source repositories + 200 real pull requests + 10 programming languages, OCR uses ~1/9 tokens of general-purpose agents like Claude Code while achieving higher precision; recall is low to avoid introducing noise. OCR supports plugins for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, CI/CD support for GitHub Actions and GitLab CI, compatibility with OpenAI, Anthropic, and arbitrary providers.

Why a vibe-coder should care

Automated code review with line-level precision — at only a fraction of the token cost of simply asking Claude Code. With the Claude Code plugin, you can now issue the /ocr review slash command in the middle of your coding flow without needing to interrupt your workflow or copy-paste.

How to install

Copy this and send it to your agent — Claude Code, Codex, any of them:

Install Open Code Review from https://github.com/alibaba/open-code-review — via npm install -g @alibaba-group/open-code-review, configure a provider with ocr config provider (ask me if you need an API key), run ocr review in the current project, and show me the first findings.

Runs on a regular laptop — you'll need Node.js and an API key from any LLM provider.
