DeepInfer: how DeepSeek serves its AI models at scale

DeepInfer is the engine DeepSeek uses to run its AI models in production. This guide explains what it does and whether it's relevant to you.

It's not a new model — it's software that efficiently runs the already-trained DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash model on powerful servers.

When it helps

Useful if you manage a cluster of server-grade GPUs and want to serve DeepSeek's model yourself. Not for a laptop or a single desktop GPU.

Pros

  • Open source — see how DeepSeek actually serves models internally
  • Deterministic sampling: identical output on repeated identical requests
  • Structured outputs: answers follow a set template, like JSON

Cons

  • Needs server GPUs: newest NVIDIA SM100 or Huawei Ascend 950
  • Partial release — no KV cache (reusable memory) or load balancing yet
  • The author says DeepSeek's model itself lags behind Opus and Fable

How to set it up — step by step

  1. 1Check your hardware: you need NVIDIA SM100 GPUs or Huawei Ascend 950 chips.
  2. 2No such hardware? Skip a local install — the engine won't run on your machine.
  3. 3Open your coding agent (Claude Code or Codex) in your project folder.
  4. 4Send the agent the text from the block below.
  5. 5Read the agent's summary of features and requirements, and decide if you need it.

Text for your agent

Copy this and send it to your agent — Claude Code, Codex, any of them:

Ask your agent to read the README at https://github.com/deepseek-ai/DeepInfer and put together a short brief: which of the engine's features (single DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash model, deterministic sampling, structured outputs) are actually useful, and whether your hardware is even in the running, given it needs server-grade NVIDIA SM100 or Huawei Ascend 950.

Server class, not for home use: it needs NVIDIA SM100 GPUs, the newest datacenter generation, or Huawei Ascend 950 NPUs. The authors ran their own benchmarks on a cluster of dozens of cards: 4 GPUs for prefill and 64 for decode. A regular laptop or a single desktop GPU will not work here.
