Compact model for coding and agents — runs on your own laptop
Spark-X2.6-4B is a small AI model built specifically for local, on-device use. You can install it on your own computer and run it without a cloud account or subscription.
A 4-billion-parameter model for coding and agentic tasks — meaning it can plan steps on its own and use tools. It runs directly on your device, with no internet or servers involved.
When it helps
Good for simple offline tasks and for testing coding agents locally without paid API keys. For hard tasks it's noticeably weaker than top models like Anthropic's Fable and Opus.
Pros
- Runs on an ordinary laptop, no GPU needed
- Compressed version is only about 2.5 GB
- Huge context window — close to 1 million tokens
- You can adjust how much the model 'thinks' per task
Cons
- Open-model benchmarks from the developer are hard to fully trust
- Noticeably weaker than top models like Fable and Opus on hard tasks
How to set it up — step by step
- 1Open your AI agent (Claude Code, Codex) inside your project folder.
- 2Send the agent the text from the block below.
- 3Let the agent download the ready-made compressed (GGUF) version from Hugging Face.
- 4Ask the agent to run the model locally via Ollama or LM Studio.
- 5Check the result — send the model a message and confirm it replies.

Install the Spark-X2.6-4B model locally for me from here: https://huggingface.co/XHToken/Spark-X2.6-4B — take the ready compressed GGUF version, run it with Ollama or LM Studio, and show me how to talk to it.
A regular laptop, no graphics card needed: the compressed version takes about 2.5 GB, the original about 8.2 GB.
