Turn any machine into a 3D model you can take apart

This is a skill for the Claude Code AI agent: ask how a machine works, and you get a working 3D model you can take apart.

Instructions the agent reads before building anything. This one teaches it to build interactive 3D machine models as a single HTML file.

When it helps

Useful for teaching materials, 'how it works' landing pages, or quickly understanding a mechanism. Skip it if plain text or a ready-made video is enough.

Pros

  • Builds the model itself in a couple of minutes per request
  • Works offline — it's one HTML file, no internet needed
  • Panels show real numbers from the model, not a drawing
  • Tours itself on its own when you leave it alone

Cons

  • Video tour with sound needs extra ffmpeg and Python tools
  • Only three examples are actually tested — the rest is unproven

How to set it up — step by step

  1. 1Install Node.js version 20 or newer and set up Claude Code.
  2. 2Run in terminal: `npx skills add elvarofficial/teardown -g -a claude-code`.
  3. 3Inside the installed folder run `npm install && npx playwright install chromium`.
  4. 4Send the agent the text from the block below.
  5. 5Open the resulting HTML page and check the model takes apart and shows numbers.

Text for your agent

Copy this and send it to your agent — Claude Code, Codex, any of them:

Install the teardown skill in Claude Code from https://github.com/elvarofficial/teardown — run `npx skills add elvarofficial/teardown -g -a claude-code`, then `npm install && npx playwright install chromium` in the installed folder, and ask it to build a simulator of a machine you're curious about, like a four-stroke engine or a mechanical watch. Show me the page it builds.

Runs on a regular laptop — just Node.js 20+ and an existing Claude Code install, no GPU needed; a video tour also needs ffmpeg, and sound needs Python 3.
