Cut your AI coding costs by switching providers with one command

FuXi is a terminal assistant that reads your code, edits files, and runs commands in your project for you. The key part: you can switch it to a cheaper AI provider anytime with one command, no reinstall needed.

It's a terminal program: it reads your code, edits files, and runs commands on your behalf — a regular AI coding agent that can also swap its own model provider.

When it helps

Useful if you already hold API keys for several AI providers and want to flip to a cheaper one on the fly. Skip it if you're happy with your current provider.

Pros

  • Switches providers with one `/model` command, no reinstall
  • Works with Anthropic, OpenAI, DeepSeek, Qwen, and other providers
  • Automatically fails over to another provider if one breaks
  • Ships as a single file with no extra dependencies, runs on any laptop

Cons

  • You manage and store the API key for each provider yourself
  • A cheap model won't match Opus 5 or Fable 5.1 quality

How to set it up — step by step

  1. 1Open a terminal in your project folder — or ask your AI agent to do it for you.
  2. 2Run the install command for Linux/macOS: `curl -fsSL https://downloads.fuxicode.com/bootstrap.sh | bash`.
  3. 3Sign up and log in with `fuxi login` — registration only needs basic account data.
  4. 4Run `fuxi` and type `/model` to pick an AI provider — your own key or a FuXi-managed model.
  5. 5Check the result: ask FuXi to fix a bug or write a small function in your project.
