Strip ads from your Android TV home screen and get a clean launcher

CleanYourTV is an open-source project from GitHub that cleans ads and bloat off your Android TV or Google TV home screen. After setup, your TV shows a clean home screen instead of the ad-filled one.

It's a set of scripts plus a coding agent that disable ad and tracking services on your TV over Wi-Fi and replace the stock home screen with a clean one.

When it helps

Useful if your Android TV or Google TV shows ads on the home screen and you have a laptop with a coding agent. Doesn't work on Samsung, LG, Roku, Vizio or Hisense VIDAA — they lack the debug access this needs, leaving only manual tracking opt-out there.

Pros

  • Nothing gets uninstalled — everything restores with one command
  • Supports hundreds of models from TCL, Sony, Xiaomi and more
  • The agent verifies every step with screenshots from your TV
  • Setup takes about fifteen minutes

Cons

  • Needs ADB — the same debug access missing on Samsung, LG, Roku
  • On Amazon Fire TV only ad-removal works, no new launcher
  • Without a laptop and coding agent this approach won't work

How to set it up — step by step

  1. 1Turn on USB debugging on the TV: Settings → About → press Build 7 times → Developer options → USB debugging.
  2. 2Clone the repo with git clone https://github.com/Gathin23/cleanyourtv and open the folder in your agent.
  3. 3Send the agent the text from the block below.
  4. 4Accept the "Allow USB debugging?" prompt on the TV and answer the agent's checklist questions.
  5. 5Check the final home screen in the screenshot the agent sends you.

Text for your agent

Copy this and send it to your agent — Claude Code, Codex, any of them:

Deploy CleanYourTV from https://github.com/Gathin23/cleanyourtv — clone the repo, turn on USB debugging on the TV (Settings → Device → About → tap Build 7 times → Developer options → USB debugging), and hand the agent the PROMPT.md file with your TV model — it will disable the ads and install a clean launcher from there. Show me a screenshot of the final home screen.

A regular laptop with an agent (Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI) — the full path also needs Python 3, a JDK 17–22, and the Android SDK; for an Android phone there's a separate app that needs no laptop at all.
