See exactly where your coding agent gets stuck in your tool
Gauge CLI runs real coding agents against your Skill, CLI, or docs and shows where they stumble — so you can fix it before release.
A free command-line tool that tests how easily AI coding agents (Claude Code, Codex, and others) can use your product.
When it helps
Useful if you're building a Skill, MCP server (an extension giving agents access to outside systems), CLI, or SDK for AI agents and want to test it before shipping. Not useful if you're building for humans, not agents.
Pros
- Finds concrete spots where agents get stuck, with a detailed report
- Runs fully locally via Docker, no Gauge account needed
- Uses your existing agent subscriptions (Claude Code, Codex, etc.)
- Lets you compare before/after a fix to confirm it actually worked
Cons
- Needs separate access or a subscription to the coding agent itself — billed separately
- Requires Docker and Node.js 22.13+; no GPU needed, but extra setup
How to set it up — step by step
- 1Install gauge-cli: npm install -g @withgauge/cli
- 2Start Docker and run gauge local runtime pull to download the runtime image
- 3Go to your Skill, CLI, or SDK folder and run gauge init --local
- 4Send the agent the text from the block below
- 5Check the agent's report for the issues and sticking points it found
- 6If it needs keys or agent access, it will ask you
Text for your agent
Copy this and send it to your agent — Claude Code, Codex, any of them:
Install gauge-cli from https://github.com/gauge-sh/gauge-cli — install it with npm install -g @withgauge/cli, start Docker, run gauge local runtime pull and gauge init --local in my Skill or CLI's folder, run the test from the README, and show me what problems the agent found in the tool. Ask me if you need any keys or agent access.
You need a regular computer with Docker and Node.js 22.13+ — no GPU required. But you need access to your own coding agent (Claude Code, Codex, Pi or OpenCode) with its subscription or API key, billed separately.
