Concat: Free CapCut Alternative with Local AI Captions

Offline, local AI-generated auto-subtitles with Whisper, text to speech, no ads or signups, no subscriptions, no cloud.

01jub0t/Concat 842TypeScript

The free, open source alternative to CapCut with no ads, no sign ups, no subscriptions, no pay walls. Built with Rust for all your media processing and React for the editing interface. Work locally with this offline video editor! It has AI-generated auto-subtitles with Whisper and its own text to speech feature. It supports multiple tracks, cutting, splitting, merging, transitions, time stretching, voice effects, styled text, and templates. Its available for macOS (unsigned binary — run one command to remove quarantine from README), Windows, and Linux. While it is still in Alpha (version 0.2.0) the functionality is there but it will be a little rough around the edges.

Why a vibe-coder should care

CapCut users who pay for a subscription have their video data uploaded to ByteDance’s servers. With this video editor, you can do all of the same things as CapCut (including the AI auto-subtitles) right on your computer — no subscription required! Templates allow you to set your video editor workflow once and use it on all of your videos.

How to install

Copy this and send it to your agent — Claude Code, Codex, any of them:

Download and install the Concat video editor from https://github.com/jub0t/Concat — grab the release binary for my OS from the Releases page, install it, launch it, and show me the editor window. Ask if you need admin rights.

Runs on a regular laptop — no GPU needed. Download the ready-made file from Releases: no separate installation required.
