Convert any file by dragging it — no office software needed
Filee is a free app that converts files right where you are: hold a key, drag a file, drop it onto a format — done.
It's a drag-and-drop converter: hold Ctrl (or Option on Mac), drag a file and drop it on the format you want — conversion starts on its own.
When it helps
Useful if you often need to change file formats — images, documents, PDF, video — and don't want bulky office suites or shady online converters. Skip it if you rarely convert files or aren't on Windows/macOS/Linux.
Pros
- Handles 270 formats without installing office suites
- Works fully offline — nothing gets uploaded
- Has a command-line version, handy for agent automation
- Converts many files at once and can auto-convert watched folders
Cons
- macOS build isn't notarized — you must allow it manually
- Drag-and-drop doesn't work on Linux Wayland, only the drop zone or menu
How to set it up — step by step
- 1Open https://github.com/KnifeLemon/Filee/releases/latest and download the build for your system.
- 2Install it following the README instructions for your OS (Windows, macOS, or Linux).
- 3Open your AI agent (Claude Code, Codex) in the folder with your files.
- 4Send the agent the text from the block below.
- 5Check that the agent shows you the converted result, then open the files.
Text for your agent
Copy this and send it to your agent — Claude Code, Codex, any of them:
Install Filee from https://github.com/KnifeLemon/Filee/releases/latest — pick the build for your system per the README, and ask it to run a folder of files through the converter using the `filee` command. Show me the result.
Runs on a regular laptop — fully offline, no GPU needed; the macOS build isn't notarized yet, so the first run needs manual approval.
