OpenWiki: AI writes your code documentation
LangChain CLI tool to auto-generate and maintain correct Markdown docs for your code. Works with Claude Code & Codex. 15k Stars. Launched 2 months ago.
An agent powered by LangChain AI that builds and maintains wiki documentation for a codebase or knowledge base. The agent reads your source files and generates linked Markdown docs into an openwiki/ directory. Each claim will be grounded to certain lines of code, so your wiki is always up-to-date with changes in your code. It outputs docs in Google Open Knowledge Format (OKF v0.2) to work with other OKF-aware tools. OpenWiki works with 13 different model providers including OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini (Google Vertex AI), Amazon Bedrock, and more. You can even integrate OpenWiki to Claude Code & Codex with just 1 line of code (openwiki integrations install claude). Your agent will take care of the documentation for you using the same models you already have. Also includes 9 built-in connectors such as Notion, Slack, Gmail, X, Hacker News, LangSmith, and more. Your wiki will auto update itself using Github Actions whenever you make changes to your code. Launched in June 2026. Already has 15k stars.
Why a vibe-coder should care
Agents no longer need to read your project structure at each session because the wiki becomes its long term memory. Wiki will auto update itself as you write code, keeping your documentation always up to date!
How to install
Copy this and send it to your agent — Claude Code, Codex, any of them:
Install OpenWiki from https://github.com/langchain-ai/openwiki — run npm install -g openwiki, then openwiki integrations install claude, restart Claude Code and initialize a wiki for the current project with 'Initialize this repository's OpenWiki'. Ask me for a model API key if needed.
Runs on a regular laptop — you'll need Node.js 22+ and a key from one of the supported providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, or another).
