How to make AI explanations actually stick in your memory
Engram is a Claude Code plugin that turns what your AI explains into knowledge you still remember weeks later, instead of forgetting it.
It's a plugin for your AI coding agent (Claude Code) that briefly quizzes you after it teaches you something, then decides itself when to bring the topic back.
When it helps
Useful if you often learn new things through an AI agent and want them to stick. Skip it if you just have a single one-off question.
Pros
- Teaching agent and grading agent are separate — no self-grading bias
- Schedules reviews automatically with the FSRS-4.5 algorithm
- All data stays local in files, no account needed
- Each review takes just 2–4 minutes
Cons
- Requires an already working AI agent, such as Claude Code
- Requires Python 3 installed on your machine
How to set it up — step by step
- 1Open a terminal with Claude Code already set up in your project folder.
- 2Run the command `claude plugin marketplace add nagisanzenin/engram`.
- 3Run the command `claude plugin install engram@engram`.
- 4Send your agent the command `/learn <topic>`, replacing topic with what you want to learn.
- 5Check that the agent asks you to recall the answer yourself before explaining it.
- 6Come back when it reminds you to review — each session takes just a couple minutes.
