Paperclip: run a team of AI agents that do real work for you
Paperclip is the app people use to manage AI agents doing real work. Instead of babysitting each agent yourself, you get one dashboard for goals, tasks, and budgets.
Paperclip is a server with a web dashboard that lets you manage a team of AI agents like company staff. It doesn't create agents itself. It connects to agents you already use: that could be Claude Code — a coding agent from Anthropic, or Codex — a coding agent from OpenAI.
When it helps
Useful when you have many parallel Claude Code terminals open and lose track of what each one is doing — you need one place to assign tasks, set budgets, and watch progress. Skip it if you only run a single agent on one simple task.
Pros
- Free and open source — the code is open, no license needed
- Works with many agents at once: Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI
- Tracks spend and budgets, pausing agents when limits are hit
- Tasks and history persist across reboots — nothing gets lost
Cons
- Doesn't make agents smarter — it only organizes their work
- Needs your own provider keys for each agent, or none get hired
- Requires Node.js 24+ on the machine running the server
How to set it up — step by step
- 1Open Claude Code or Codex in your project folder
- 2Send the agent the text from the block below
- 3Check the dashboard to confirm Paperclip deployed and your agent connected
- 4Provide your agent's provider key if it asks for one
- 5State your first goal in plain words and assign one test task
- 6Review the result and spend in the dashboard before trusting agents with more
Text for your agent
Copy this and send it to your agent — Claude Code, Codex, any of them:
Deploy Paperclip from https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip — run `npx paperclipai@latest onboard --yes` from the README, connect my agent (Claude Code or Codex) with its own key, give it one test task, and show me the result on the dashboard. Ask me for a model API key if you need one.
Runs on a regular laptop — no GPU needed, just Node.js 24+ and keys for whichever agent providers you connect.
