Prime Agent — self-improving AI coder by Prime Intellect
Prime Agent from Prime Intellect is an open source self-tuning code agent. It iteratively improves its prompts and skills based on previous interactions, so it gets better at the tasks you give it over time.
Prime Agent is a coding and research agent developed by Prime Intellect, open sourced just 4 months ago and already with almost 18,000 stars. It’s an IPython persistent environment which can run code, manipulate files, create and interact with parallel subagents, all without going through you. The main feature of the agent is self improvement — every time you use the /refine command, it analyzes its previous performance and improves its own additional prompts and skills for the next time around. You can even save commonly used flows as reusable skills. Finally, the long running auto mode with periodic heartbeats allows the agent to keep working for hours while you sleep, on complicated research tasks. Available for Mac OS X and Linux. At first launch, you can either select a subscription plan or use your own OpenAI/Anthropic/other API key.
Why a vibe-coder should care
Unlike other agents, Prime Agent has memory. Every time you run the /refine command, it gets better and better at the tasks you want it to do. The long running auto mode with periodic heartbeats allows the agent to work while you sleep, on complicated research projects.
How to install
Copy this and send it to your agent — Claude Code, Codex, any of them:
Install Prime Agent from here: https://github.com/PrimeIntellect-ai/prime-agent — follow the README, run the curl installer, configure the model provider (I have an API key, just ask), run a first task and show me the result.
Runs on a regular laptop with macOS or Linux — a language model key or subscription required.
