Turn text into speech right in your browser — free, no install
Phonon is a free text-to-speech model that turns your text into spoken audio right in your browser. Nothing to install — just open the page and start typing.
It's a neural network that reads your text aloud in one of several built-in voices. It runs on a Hugging Face page — a site with AI demos.
When it helps
Useful when you need quick narration in English, French, German, Spanish, or Portuguese, with no signup and no cost. Not meant for professional voiceover or voice cloning.
Pros
- Free and install-free — runs right in the browser
- Model is under 75 MB and loads in seconds
- No text or audio ever leaves your device
- 100 ready-made voices across 5 languages
Cons
- Can't clone your own voice — that needs a separate paid service
- Two of the three models are banned for commercial use
- The smallest model only supports English
How to set it up — step by step
- 1Open https://huggingface.co/spaces/gradium/phonon in your browser.
- 2Wait a few seconds while the model (up to 75 MB) loads automatically.
- 3Pick one of the 100 voices and the language you need.
- 4Type your text and play it back.
- 5If you work through an AI agent, send it the text in the block below to see how it's done.
- 6Check the result and save the audio if you need it elsewhere.
Text for your agent
Copy this and send it to your agent — Claude Code, Codex, any of them:
Open this space https://huggingface.co/spaces/gradium/phonon and show me how to turn my text into speech with one of the built-in voices: which language to pick and how to save the result.
Nothing to install - it runs right in your browser, the model is under 75 MB and loads itself.
