Play chess against a real fly's brain
This is a web page where your chess opponent isn't an engine — it's a trained map of a real fly's brain connections. Open the link in your browser and make your first move in a couple of minutes.
A Hugging Face Space (a page hosting a ready AI project): a network copied from a real fly's brain reads your move and computes a reply plus a win probability.
When it helps
Open it if you're curious what raw brain biology can do without training from scratch. It's not for serious play — any ordinary chess engine beats it easily.
Pros
- Brain wiring is untouched — copied exactly from the real fly's brain map
- Watch the 3D brain light up in real time on every move
- Runs straight in the browser, nothing to install
- Downloads once (~150 MB), then loads from browser cache
Cons
- Plays chess weakly — any ordinary engine beats it easily
- Needs a browser with WebGPU support (recent Chrome or Edge)
How to set it up — step by step
- 1Open Chrome or Edge — WebGPU support is required.
- 2Go to https://huggingface.co/spaces/mlabonne/chessfly and wait for the ~150 MB download.
- 3Play a few moves against the model right on the page.
- 4Send the agent the text from the block below to play a game and explain the model's move.
- 5Check the move explanation and win probability the agent reports back.
Text for your agent
Copy this and send it to your agent — Claude Code, Codex, any of them:
Open this space https://huggingface.co/spaces/mlabonne/chessfly, play a game of chess against the simulated brain of a real fruit fly, and tell me how it shows its move choice and win probability.
Nothing to install — it runs in your browser via WebGPU (supported by recent Chrome and Edge). It downloads about 150 MB on first load and caches it after that.
