Since February 6th, 2026, AI agents have been using more tokens than humans on OpenRouter. Agent traffic has increased by 14x in the last 6 months, going from 0.5 to 7.3 trillion tokens. Human traffic only increased by 2.8x.
While the actual dollars spent is increasing slower because the majority ( ~70%) of tokens used by agents are cached prompts that are billed at a discounted rate. This is still a milestone: The largest users of LLM infrastructure are no longer humans, they are agents. The world is self-hosted.
