Amazon retires its Nova service while looking towards a future model at re:Invent 2026
Amazon puts Nova Premier, Omni, Reel, and Canvas into maintenance mode. They plan to announce a new frontier model at re:Invent in fall 2026.
Amazon has stopped developing many of their internal AI models. They’ve put Nova Premier, Nova Omni, and image/video generation models Reel and Canvas into maintenance mode. They’re investing in a new Frontier Model Research team headed by Pieter Abbeel (formerly of Covariant, a robotics startup that Amazon acquired in 2024).
Amazon will release their new foundation model at the re:Invent conference in fall 2026. They’ve invested more than $100 billion in Anthropic and OpenAI, so it seems they want to rely on partners instead of trying to develop their own models.
