AMD Invests $1B in Meta, Expands AI Chip Partnership
AMD will invest $1 billion in Meta stock. The deal is part of a broader chip partnership for artificial intelligence, covering new generations of EPYC and Instinct.
AMD is investing $1 billion in Meta stock and expanding its AI chip partnership with the company. AMD EPYC processors, its server chips, already run by the millions in Meta's data centers, powering the Muse AI agent. Meta will now get early access to AMD's next-generation EPYC 6 chips. AMD is also building a separate version of its Instinct accelerator, used for training AI models, tailored specifically to Meta's workloads. On top of that, AMD's Helios server systems are already deployed in Meta's data centers.
This news does not change the current lineup of AI tools. But it is another blow to Nvidia's dominance in the AI training chip market. The more deals like this happen, the better the odds that cloud AI services get cheaper down the road. For now, though, this is mostly plans and early hardware rollouts. Do not expect your API bills to drop anytime soon.
