Anthropic, Blackstone, Hellman & Friedman, and Goldman Sachs have founded Ode, a company focused on building AI within organizations. Initial funding: $1.5B. They don’t sell software licenses or APIs — Ode embeds engineers within client organizations to develop AI products. Within days of announcing their launch, they acquired Fractional AI (who had previously partnered with OpenAI).

Ode starts with 100 engineers. They follow a “Claude first” policy: prioritize using Anthropic models, but say they’ll use whatever AI tools clients need. CEO Chris Taylor thinks they can scale this to trillions of dollars of value, like other outsourced IT companies such as Accenture or Infosys which expanded into hundreds of billions of dollars of markets.

There are other companies doing similar things. OpenAI started The Deployment Company, while Deloitte and Accenture have long sold corporate AI transformation services. But Ode isn’t like those companies: they send engineers rather than consultants, and deliver solutions rather than advice. They’re betting that companies aren’t paying for ideas, but implementations, and that few companies have the engineering talent to do this themselves.

With the launch of Ode, Anthropic is changing strategy. They’re not just building models — they’re betting that the most valuable part of AI happens after the model is trained, when it gets deployed in the real world. That changes the competitive dynamics: now it’s not just models fighting over corporate dollars, but deployment teams.
