Anthropic Offers Startups a Free Year of Claude Team Plus API Credits

Anthropic has launched a startup program: a free year of Claude Team and $1,000 in API credits for companies under five years old or with a recent funding round.

Anthropic, the company behind the Claude AI models, announced an expansion of its Claude for Startups program. The announcement came on October 6 at SF Tech Week, an event Anthropic held in San Francisco. Startups that get accepted receive a free year of Claude Team, Anthropic's paid plan for teams, with room for up to 5 seats. They also get $1,000 in API credits, which cover the cost of using Claude through code. To qualify, a company must have been founded no more than 5 years ago. Or it must have raised funding within the last 2 years. Participants also get access to the Claude Marketplace, a store for plugins built on top of Claude. They can also book consulting hours with Anthropic's applied AI team.

This removes one of the most tedious parts of launching a startup. Before a startup has any revenue, it still has to pay for API tokens and team seats. In the early days, a team either learns to track how many tokens its AI agents are burning, or it spends carelessly and gets surprised by the bill later. $1,000 is not unlimited, but it should be enough for a working prototype on Opus or Sonnet, two of Anthropic's Claude models. Anthropic says the benefits of AI should reach people mainly through companies built on its models, not through the models themselves. That is why, it says, partnering with founders and developers is a central part of its mission.
