Apple Alleges 11 Employees Stole Company Secrets and Shared Them With OpenAI
Apple’s lawsuit against OpenAI gets even more interesting: Apple claims 11 ex-employees stole confidential data and tools, while one destroyed evidence. It could have major implications for how tech companies hire AI talent.
Apple expanded its lawsuit against OpenAI, accusing 11 ex-employees of stealing confidential information and tools. According to the complaint, former senior engineer Chan Liu downloaded “dozens” of files from Apple’s cloud service to third-party providers after he joined OpenAI, used Apple’s electrical schematics for simulations, and asked a coworker to delete data from their devices after the investigation started.
The latest development isn’t just a one-off event. Apple wants the court to expedite discovery and the lawsuit could have broad implications for the AI community. Big tech companies have been trying to hire top talent away from each other, and judges are beginning to decide where the line between recruitment and espionage lies.
