‘District 9’ director shares a 13-minute movie made using AI
Director Neill Blomkamp made the entirety of his sci-fi horror short Nightborne using Seedance 2.0, writing each frame via text prompts. Now he’s started his own AI movie studio, Barley Studios, to make a full-length sequel.
Director Neill Blomkamp (District 9) has published Nightborne, a 13-minute sci-fi horror short film produced entirely using Seedance 2.0. Every frame was written via text prompts, and the movie features 32 licensed human faces/voices plus artist concepts. As a result, he’s started his own AI movie studio, Barley Studios, and is already working on a full-length sequel.
This is the first time that an A-list director has both dabbled in AI algorithms and delivered a completed film (and then started a whole studio based on it). AI-generated videos are becoming increasingly professional, and Hollywood is sitting up and paying attention.
