Brown University Test Scores Plummet From 96% To 48% After Removing Artificial Intelligence (AI) From Exams
Brown University economist Roberto Serrano switched his final exam to in person. Average score plummeted from 96% to 48.6%, lowest ever. Out of 86 students, 19 failed, 18 dropped, 9 never showed up (they’d been getting perfect scores on homework because ChatGPT gave similar answers). This confirms a systemic reliance on AI in education.

Out of 86 students, 19 failed, 18 dropped, 9 never showed up (they’d been getting perfect scores on homework because ChatGPT gave similar answers). This confirms a systemic reliance on AI in education. In the age of AI, there will be a huge gap between doing well on assignments and understanding material.
A Chinese survey of 26,000 students found that homework grades went up by 18% but exam grades dropped by 20%. At Berkeley, the percentage of students who got As on homework assignments increased by 13 percentage points since ChatGPT came online.
