OpenAI Merges ChatGPT and Codex Usage Limits

Starting in December, ChatGPT and Codex will share one usage limit instead of two separate ones. ChatGPT is OpenAI's chatbot. Codex is its coding assistant. The change applies to the Plus, Pro, and Business plans. OpenAI says it is moving the agentic features from its Work product into regular ChatGPT. Usage there will be counted in tokens. If the shared limit runs out, you can wait for it to reset, move to a higher plan, or buy extra tokens separately.
Agentic and complex tasks usually burn far more tokens than a normal chat exchange. So merging the two limits quietly shifts that cost onto people who never saw it before. The ones who will feel this most are daily Codex users. Their usage now shares one counter with ordinary chat users on the same plan. For anyone actually building things with agents, not just chatting, this is a real cut to their room to operate. It is not just a formality.
