ChatGPT Connects to Epic EHR, Covering 325 Million Patient Records
ChatGPT Health has integrated with Epic — the EHR system covering 325 million patients. Clinicians can now import medical histories, lab results, and prescriptions directly into chat.
ChatGPT Health has integrated with Epic, the largest U.S. electronic health records system, covering 325 million patients. Clinicians can import medical histories, lab results, prescriptions, and discharge summaries directly into chat — the AI surfaces key changes before an appointment. An evaluation of 4,300 real-world responses across 27 clinical scenarios found 99.1% safe recommendations.
The AI now has access to medical databases: ClinicalTrials.gov, PubMed, and RxNorm. For now, it's read-only — records cannot be edited. But Epic is already deployed in most U.S. hospitals, and OpenAI has embedded itself not into a third-party service but directly into the physician's workflow.
