ChatGPT Reaches 1.2 Billion Weekly Users

OpenAI says ChatGPT now has more than 1.2 billion weekly users. The company's annualized revenue is approaching $70 billion. That is a jump of roughly 70% since the start of the third quarter. OpenAI credits the growth to expanded enterprise sales, a price war against Claude and Chinese models, and fast growth of Codex, its coding assistant. Meanwhile, Anthropic's revenue already topped $65 billion annualized in July. According to the report, it could match or overtake OpenAI's number.

The price war among OpenAI, Anthropic, and the Chinese models mostly means cheaper tokens for me. It is not some abstract contest between giants. Codex's growth in this picture shows that coding agents are now a real revenue line, not a side experiment. I work in Claude Code every day. What I see is that price pressure, not one-off quality breakthroughs, is what drives the agent industry forward right now.
