Anthropic Opens Up Claude Code to Edits From Within
Anthropic has added a system called Mods to Claude Code. These are JavaScript and TypeScript add-ons that run inside the tool itself.
Anthropic has released an extension system for its coding assistant Claude Code. It is called "Mods." These extensions live inside Claude Code. They are not a plugin layered on top of it. They are written in JavaScript and TypeScript. They can hook in when Claude calls a tool. They can also open a side panel alongside the chat interface. The first official example is a plugin called "You Should Know." It opens up another agent that watches Claude's responses. It sends a "heads up" notification when it senses that Claude missed something important.
This is a real shift in paradigm for Claude Code. Instead of just stacking new features on top of the platform, Anthropic is changing how it works at its core. This is exactly what was missing for people who already work with agents every day. It is not for everyone. I think it will fit best for people who are already heavy agent users. Anthropic itself warns that these mods run with full user privileges, with no sandboxing. In other words, they have complete freedom of action on your machine. So stick to official, vetted extensions. I am not presenting this as a way for just anyone to start working with agents. It is more a tool for those who already do.
