Cursor Launches Origin to Take On GitHub

Cursor has launched Origin, a code-hosting platform aimed squarely at GitHub. On launch day, GitHub suffered a global outage lasting more than six hours — one of 257 incidents logged over the past year. Cursor was acquired by SpaceX for $60 billion.

Cursor has released Origin, a code-hosting platform that competes directly with GitHub. Developers can store repositories, manage pull requests, and collaborate — all on the same day GitHub went down in a global outage lasting more than six hours. GitHub logged 257 incidents over the past year.

Cursor was acquired by SpaceX three days ago for $60 billion — and is already going after GitHub, the backbone of global software development. Origin will gain agent-native features: a coding tool is evolving into a full development platform, and the battle for the ecosystem is just getting started.
