Starting August 16, DeepSeek is raising prices on its models fourfold during peak hours: the flagship V4 Pro will climb from $0.87 to $3.96 per million output tokens, and V4 Flash from $0.28 to $1.32. The promotional prices the company promised to make permanent back in May are being rolled back under the explanation of "load optimization."
DeepSeek's appeal was built largely on its price: it was the first signal that powerful AI models don't have to be expensive. After the hike, V4 Pro is still seven times cheaper than GPT-5.6 Sol — but the price gap that made DeepSeek popular with businesses and developers is shrinking fast.
