On the DeepSWE benchmark (a coding-agent test), the score jumped from 12.8 to 62.7; the Intelligence Index rose from 45 to 53. Starting August 16, API prices increased: output tokens went from $0.87 to $1.98 per million — more than doubling.
The open-source Harness lets developers build agentic pipelines with logging and session resumption — capabilities that previously required proprietary cloud platforms. Sharply raising prices while simultaneously releasing open-source tooling is an unusual strategy: DeepSeek is keeping developers invested through its ecosystem, not just on price alone.
