DoorDash: Third-Party AI Agents Brought Only Hundreds of Orders
DoorDash says third-party AI agents have generated only a few hundred orders, while the company itself delivers millions of packages a day.
DoorDash CEO Tony Xu said on the company's third-quarter earnings call that third-party AI agents (such as Muse, Instinct, and Fo, which can order food on their own) have brought in only a few hundred orders total. In 2025, DoorDash was handling about 3 million deliveries a day. Xu called the agent-ordering space "fluid" and said the company is open to working with developers building these agents.
That tiny number of orders, set against DoorDash's overall volume, shows just how early-stage agent shopping still is. It does not mean the idea has failed. There are still real barriers to clear, mostly around trust: can an agent pay correctly, and will it get the right items? Amazon has banned these agents from its site, while Walmart allows them. That split will slow growth in the space.
