Free Fantasy Map Generator for Vibe Projects: Azgaar’s FMG
An online procedural fantasy world map generator that lets you create maps with terrains, kingdoms, rivers & cities. It’s free, open source, requires no installation & allows exporting maps as SVG / PNG files.
Last month I tried to train an AI agent to generate a fantasy world map for me. After spending around 2 hrs, all I got was some colored rectangles with random text labels and SVG files that broke my browser. So, I decided to ask for help on the internet, which led me to this tool and I am kind of mad at myself for not finding it earlier!
Azgaar’s Fantasy Map Generator is an online fantasy map generator. It’s been there for quite some time now and has a huge user base. Writers use it for their novels, D&D enthusiasts for their D&D campaigns, Vibe coders for adding real geographies to their RPG games/world building projects etc. There is nothing to install or sign up, just visit the website and start generating maps.

This tool generates an interactive SVG fantasy world map complete with coastlines, rivers, mountain ranges, biomes, states (with automatically generated names), cities, roads, trade routes etc. All of these are editable too. You can edit any part of the map by clicking on it. For example, you can change the name of the kingdom, move the borders, add a city, delete a river etc. Once you’re satisfied with the map, simply export it as an SVG (which you can scale to any size and print as a poster) or PNG file. Give this exported map file to your AI agent along with a prompt like “Use this as the world map for our story” and watch how it effortlessly interprets the geography!
How to use the free fantasy map maker
- 1Open azgaar.github.io/Fantasy-Map-Generator in your browser — nothing to install
- 2Click Generate to create a random world (or type a seed number for reproducible results)
- 3Use the toolbar on the left to edit: rename kingdoms, add cities, adjust biomes, redraw coastlines
- 4Click Export in the top menu, choose SVG for scalable vector or PNG for a flat image
- 5Pass the exported file to your AI agent as world context — describe your project and say "use this map"
Using the SVG output is particularly helpful in this case because it’s a vector image format. This means your AI agent will be able to interpret the underlying structure of the SVG file and get information about different regions, their names, borders etc. This is much better than explaining the world to your AI agent in plain text or expecting it to imagine a world on its own.
A complete procedural fantasy world — terrain, states, cities, rivers, trade routes — generated in seconds and fully editable in the browser. Export to SVG or PNG and hand it to your agent. For any worldbuilding project, RPG, novel, or narrative game, this is the fastest way to give your story real geography.
