Figaro : Discord Music Bot With Soundboard (Open-Source & Free)
Figaro is a free and open source voice changer for Discord, allowing you to apply real-time effects and use a soundboard. There’s no subscription either! Download the GUI version to be up and running in a few minutes.
Whenever I tried to find a free Discord voice changer, I always stumbled upon Voicemod (which is only free in some form), or some dodgy downloads from websites that I wouldn’t trust with my burner email. But then I stumbled across Figaro on GitHub, and I couldn’t believe my eyes. An open source (MIT licensed) voice changer with an interface, and no, not some messy Python script to deal with in the terminal!
As the developers describe their project, Figaro is a real-time voice modification program and sound board. And indeed it is! Filters can be applied to your voice, with sliders allowing you to modify them. A Soundboard also exists, which allows you to put MP3s in the res/sounds folder, which will show up as buttons that can then be accessed with a keyboard shortcut during your conversation! Figaro runs on Windows and Linux.

For everyone that isn’t really familiar with Python and such, the best way is by downloading the releases. There is a Windows installer (.exe) and an archive for Linux (.tar.gz). Once downloaded, simply open the file, and the GUI will be opened for you! No Python, no terminal! For those that require more, the setup script will take care of the bulk of the Python installations for you.
Is there a free voice changer for Discord?
Absolutely! Although Figaro is a pretty clean one, if I may say so myself! The reason why you have to use a virtual audio device is because Discord doesn’t allow you to pipe the audio in. Figaro will write to this device, and Discord will read from it. This process is described in the README, so you won’t have to worry about that.
- 1Download and install a virtual audio input device — the README suggests one in its references section (look for 'virtual audio cable' or 'VB-Audio Virtual Cable')
- 2Open Figaro and pick the virtual input device as your output (e.g. 'CABLE Input')
- 3In Discord go to User Settings → Voice & Video → Input Device and select the matching output (e.g. 'CABLE Output')
- 4Your friends will now hear your filtered voice instead of the raw microphone
Free voice changer with built-in soundboard
One of the features of Figaro is the Soundboard feature. As I mentioned earlier, this uses a folder named res/sounds. Simply place your MP3 files here, and they will show up in the Sounds panel as buttons. Pressing these buttons will then play the sounds through your speakers, but also through Discord at the same time. You can define keyboard shortcuts in a .fig file, which can be used to play certain sounds while staying in-game. Pretty cool, considering it’s free!
The filters are defined in the right click menu in the Workspace area. Some examples include pitch, reverb, and compression. You can define multiple filters at once, and change the sliders while speaking. You can even define keyboard shortcuts to filter or play sounds via the Figaro-Script (.fig) file format. This comes in handy for those that stream, and would like to use consistent sound effects.
git clone https://github.com/MattMoony/figaro.git && cd figaro && chmod 755 ./setup.sh && ./setup.sh
python figaro.py -g
A completely free, open-source voice changer with real-time filters and a soundboard — no subscription, no watermark. Works on Windows and Linux. The Discord integration takes about four steps using a virtual audio device, and your agent can handle the dev installation from scratch.
