Free Gopher SVG Illustrations: 100+ CC0 Open-Source Characters

Every landing page hits the same wall around iteration three or four. The layout works, the colors are fine, but something's missing — the thing that makes it feel like a human made it on purpose. Usually that thing is a character. Not a generic stock photo, not a random geometric shape floating in the hero section — an actual character with personality.

I kept running into the same problem: decent mascot illustration packs either cost money, come with awkward licensing restrictions, or look like they were drawn in 2009. This one is different. Maria Letta, a profesional illustrator and graphic designer, put her entire gopher character collection into the public domain — meaning you can use it in literally anything, commercial or personal, no credit required.

The gopher is the official mascot of the Go programming language, and this pack has become popular far beyond Go developers — its just a charming, expressive character that works in any tech-adjacent context. The repo splits into three folders: /characters/ with 78 individual poses (sitting, running, coding, drinking coffee, looking confused, looking excited), /goroutines/ with group scene illustrations, and /illustrations/ with lifestyle-style setups. Everything comes in SVG and PNG on transparent backgrounds, so you drop any image straight into dark or light designs without editing.

1How to add a character to your project

The simplest approach is to give you agent the GitHub repo link and describe what pose you want. Something like: 'use the gopher character from MariaLetta/free-gophers-pack, pick a friendly pose from characters/svg/, and add it to the onboarding screen as a mascot'. If you'd rather pick a pose yourself first, open the /preview/ folder — there are grid images showing all the poses at once, numbered, so you can see what you're getting before downloading.
