OpenAI Acquires AI Camera Startup Glass Imaging for $300M
OpenAI has acquired Glass Imaging, an AI startup focused on smartphone photo enhancement. The founders previously built Portrait Mode at Apple.
OpenAI has acquired Glass Imaging — a company that uses AI to enhance smartphone photos — for $300 million. It was founded by former Apple engineers who developed Portrait Mode. Prior to the acquisition, the company had raised roughly $30 million.
As a vibe coder, I see this as a signal: OpenAI is building its own hardware — smartphones and earbuds. Acquiring a team that understands how a camera works at the silicon level tells you the company wants to own the full stack, from the lens all the way up to the language model.
