Google is removing Google Assistant from Android devices on September 4. Phones, tablets, smartwatches, and earbuds will switch to Gemini — with no way to go back.
Google has announced that Google Assistant will be permanently removed from Android devices — phones, tablets, smartwatches, and earbuds — on September 4. The company has sent emails to users warning that after that date, switching back will no longer be possible.
In regions where Gemini is available and the device meets minimum requirements, the switch will happen automatically. In other regions, there will be no voice assistant at all.
The departure of Assistant marks the end of an era: voice assistants built on rules and scripts are giving way, one by one, to large language models. Google has become one of the first major vendors to completely remove its classic assistant — not freeze it, but actually delete it.
